Dr. Jörg-Michael Scheil, M.A., born 1965 in Hannover.
Dr. Joerg-Michael Scheil has been a partner of our firm and Chief Representative of the Shanghai office since 1999. Before joining Schulz Noack Bärwinkel in Hamburg in 1997, he practiced as a German attorney-at-law with a major European law firm in Duesseldorf. He studied law and sinology (Chinese studies) at Goettingen University and Chinese law at the East China Institute for Politics and Law in Shanghai. He received a master’s degree in sinology and his doctoral degree in law from Goettingen University. Permanent advice rendered to German and other European industrial clients is the focus of his work. Long-term clients include reputable companies from the chemical, electrical, medical equipment, fasteners and paper industry. Dr. Scheil was appointed to the board of directors by several clients for their subsidiaries in China.
Dr. Scheil has published numerous articles on Chinese business law in Germany, China and Hong Kong, including the section on China in the Handbook on the international law of limited companies. Together with three co-authors, he is also the author of the German language translation with introduction of the Contract Law of the People’s Republic of China. He regularly speaks at seminars of international hosts in Germany, China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
